FCS Division Has Its Day at Virtual VISION
This is the year to attend a national conference and see ALL the sessions from the convenience of your home or office! Plus, your feet won’t hurt at the end of the day!
Join your career and technical education (CTE) colleagues as we attend CareerTech's Virtual VISION 2020 which will be held Nov 29–Dec. 4.
The FCS-focused day is Dec. 1 with our opening session, a variety of FCS content, and our awards ceremony. Come back on Dec. 2 for the FCS Information Booth and Best Practices (short presentations from several FCS teachers).
All of Virtual VISION 2020 will be recorded so you can watch sessions from other divisions or take advantage of professional development on your own time schedule.
Special offer for FCS Division attendees: If you register by Oct. 1, your name will be placed in a drawing for member registrations for VISION 2021 in New Orleans on Dec. 1-4! We will conduct three drawings during our FCS Division Opening Session.

ServSafe
This is a low price for training or recertification with our talented trainer, Mary Levinski. Of the over 250+ FCS teachers who have trained with her, all have passed! Our initiative is to have all FCS teachers certified, teaching ServSafe curriculum and administering ServSafe to all Foundation of Foods Culinary and/or Culinary I students. Please help our field meet the skills shortage gap and give students a leg up in getting their first job in hospitality. In addition, certification brings credibility to our field as access to industry certification is a main focus of Perkins V.
Note: If not allowed to have training at MDE, we are looking at nearby locations as Plan B. We will be following COVID protocol including 6 feet distance, and other suggested protocol.
Download the registration form here.
Deadline for registration is July 10th
CTE Inspired Virtual Conference
There is a free virtual CTE conference called CTE Inspired. Even if participants are unable to attend during the actual conference, you can still access the content afterward if you’ve registered.
There is an FCS track available as well as other options. Registration and info can be found here: https://www.icevonline.com/cteinspired

Embedding CDA certification in Early Childhood Education Pathway
This is a friendly reminder for Metro area teachers about the Monday, March 16th “Embedding CDA Certification in Early Childhood Education Pathway” - Registration link closes next Friday, March 13th
If you teach a Child and Human Development course and/or Early Childhood Education Career Pathway, please try to have at least one person from your department, especially if you are in the metro area. This training will be at MDE and I’m taking the training around the state over the next year. The Southeast, Southwest and Northwest area (now scheduled for Thursday, May 7th) have expressed interest in this training and I will work with the consortium directors. If you are in any of these regions but have IMMEDIATE needs and requests from your district, please go ahead and sign up for the metro area training below.
Cost: Free! Lunch is on your own.
Registration link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/P9CFF38
This is the future of what the first two levels of Child Development and Early Childhood Education level II could look like. In addition to providing life skills and parenting skills needed, we are providing students with a career pathway to enter multiple fields which work with children. Students take this course, not because they want to learn to parent, they take the course because they love children. Let’s give them a much needed leg up in starting to pursue this career area and acquire work based experiences in high school doing what they love. Their future of the opportunities in this field are multiple and varied!
